Q: Why should I even consider emergency preparedness?

A: Everyday across the globe we see examples of everyday people who face unforeseen emergencies.  Whether its a power outage, snow or ice storm, flooding, a failure in utilities causing a mass evacuation, or an infectious disease epidemic, It is now more than ever important to make sure you and those you care about are well prepared for an emergency.  Preparedness is practiced by all governments across the world, many companies, religious and social institutions as well as individuals, why shouldn't you prepare too?

Q: What is a COOP plan and why do I need one?

A: A COOP plan is a collection of resources, actions, procedures, and information that is developed, tested, and held in readiness for use in the event of a major disruption of operations.

Q: Some of those people I see on TV who are preparing for the end of the world are a little weird.  Do I have to be like them to properly prepare for an emergency situation or disaster?

A: We at World Aware commend everyone who has already taken steps to ensure their safety during an emergency or disaster.  And we definitely agree that the more prepared you are, the better off you will be.  However, we want to make the idea of and the resources for preparedness available for the everyday citizen.  It is possible for you to prepare for emergencies adequately, even if you don't have a bunker in your backyard ;-)

Q: What type of emergency/disasters should I focus my preparations on?

A: Each area is different and the risks faced in various regions of the world call for different preparedness needs.  When making emergency plans is important is to do a risk analysis of your area to identify your specific vulnerabilities.  World Aware offers risk analysis as the first step in our emergency consulting services.  On a individual or group level, most of the emergency kits we offer were designed with an "all hazards" approach.  This means that they are stocked with items that would help you out in most emergency situations.
